Object - Category Reorder Page
This screen will allow you to re-order linked objects of any type attached
to a given INXtree node (aka "category"). The eventual goal behind this
process is to control the order in which these objects will appear inside the
resulting Project Report.
This management page is common to all supported fully-fledged object types.
There are two ways to reach it. The first (and most logical one) is:
- First reach the Projects List, identify the project you are interested in
and click on its Report action link (if that action is still
disabled, you need to edit your project and set the Structure Container
Node first -- see Projects Edition Page).
- Once on the Projects Report Page, click on the Preview action link
at the bottom.
- This brings you to the INXtree Report Page in "preview" mode. The structure of
your project is displayed, as well as all the objects that are linked to
it.
- Then click on any of the 'S' action links displayed next
to the sub-categories (here, representing chapters, sections and subsections
of your Project Report -- see Projects Management Workflow) to reach the Object - Category Reorder Page
and re-order the objects attached to that (sub-)category (and only that one).
Another way to reach that page is:
- From the INXtree Browser, click on any node (aka "category") to view it (or
click its Edit action link instead).
- This brings you to the Categories Edition Page.
- Once there, click on the 'S' action link next to the
"Linked Objects" heading in the bottom half of the page.
Beware: while there is no technical obstacle to re-ordering
in this way the objects linked to any category you may wish to select, this
action is in fact only meaningful when applied to a category located below
a project's designated Structure Container Node (whether this is the
case or not is not visible on the Categories Edition Page). If you re-order outside of a
Report structure, the new order will be dutifully kept in the database,
but may not be reflected on other pages.
The Object - Category Reorder Page supports the following actions:
- Move UP: moves the selected object one position UP in the
list of objects attached to the current category.
- Move DOWN: moves the selected object one position DOWN in the
list of objects attached to the current category.
The 'sortkey' column for the entire object list linked to the
current category will be updated each time either of these actions are
triggered.
The "object - category relationship" record doesn't have any field at this
stage that would be edited separately, outside of what the ./buttons already
described provide.
For each existing relationship in the list, its row contains the following
actionable items.
- Radio button: Click on it to mark the row as target for the next
action (moving the row in question up or down in the list) that will result
from pressing on one of the ./buttons (see below).
Please note: once a row has been marked, it stays marked even after the
reordering action has been performed, to allow for easily moving an object
several positions in a row.
- Object name: This name will always contain a link (typically the
object type prefix letter -- see Objects and Metadata Types -- followed by its ID). Clicking
on it will lead you back to that object edition page in 'view' mode.
The following ./buttons are located below the table containing the object
links:
- Up: moves the selected object one position UP in the
list of objects attached to the current category.
- Down: moves the selected object one position DOWN in the
list of objects attached to the current category.
Pressing on these ./buttons is only effective once a row has been marked
in the table by clicking on its radio button. When no line is marked and
one of the ./buttons is pressed, a warning message will be displayed.
These links are located at the bottom of the page, just above the footer.
- Back to Preview link
- Click on this link to return to the INXtree Report Page in
Project Preview mode. This link is only displayed when the
current page was initially reached from the INXtree Report Page.
- Back to Category link
- Click on this link to return to the Categories Edition Page in view mode.
This link is displayed only when the current page was initially reached
from the Categories Edition Page (through its 'view' or 'edit' mode).
