Individual Selector

Purpose

This screen is used to browse the entire Individuals list and then select an entry to add a child in a family or create a new couple from separate individuals. It is often (but not always) displayed as a pop-up dialogue (that is to say that it opens as a new window or tab).

Getting There...

Selectors are purpose-built screens that are not reachable through the general navigation of the application, but only by clicking on specific action links on certain screens. Here are the places and actions that will trigger the display of this selector, and the context of its use:

• On the Families List, clicking on the Add action link to create a new Family. Selects each member of the new couple in turn.
• On the Families Edition Page, through the "Add a new family" link on the insert / update result page.
• On the Family - Child Edition Page, clicking on the Link action link. Selects an existing Individual record as a child to the currently selected couple.
• On the Individual - Family Edition Page, clicking on the New Union action link. Selects an existing Individual record as a spouse to the currently selected individual and creates a new Family record.

For each individual listed on the screen, simply click on its ID (first column) to select it.

Filters

Depending on the context, the list may not show all Individuals defined in the database, but only the subset relevant for the task at hand. For instance:

• when creating a new Family record, you be asked to select the male partner, female partner, or each in turn. In this cases, the list will be filtered by sex to only display eligible Individuals.
• when selecting an existing individual as a child to the currently open Family, only Individual records that are not already linked to a Family will be listed.
