Object - Event Edition Page

Purpose

This screen will allow you to manage the relationship between those fully-fledged objects that support it (i.e. Slides, Sources, Individuals and Families) and Event records. These relationships will help you "tell the story" of the object in question by documenting the noteworthy events that affected it. The events that they will be linked with exist as objects in their own right, of course (please refer to the Events Edition Page for more details about them). You can create as many event links per object as needed.

Getting There...

This management page is common to all fully-fledged object types that support this kind of relationship. To reach it:

First reach the edition page for the specific object that you are interested in (Slides, Sources, Individuals or Families only) and access it in 'edit' mode (or switch to it once you are there).
Scroll down the object edition page until you see the Events section.
Click on the Edit action link next to it.

Please note that on the Individuals Edition Page, the "Events" section is called Biography.

Supported actions

The Object - Event Edition Page supports the following actions:

Unlink: removes the link between the object currently being edited and the selected event. No further confirmation is required.

Beyond that, this page will also let you modify existing relationships in different ways and create new ones (see the "link actions" section below). But the actual logic behind these is implemented elsewhere.

Fields

The "object - event relationship" record doesn't have any field at this stage that would be edited separately, outside of what the action links and selector screens already described provide.

Controls

Object name

The first row below the page header displays the name of the object currently being edited. This name will always contain a link (typically the object type prefix letter -- see Objects and Metadata Types -- followed by its ID). Clicking on it will lead you back to that object edition page in 'view' mode.

Link actions

For each existing relationship in the list, the first and last columns of its row contain links that correspond to actions to be performed on the relationship record or on the linked Event record.

Obj ID: the Obj ID (left-most column) is a link that opens the Events Edition Page in view mode for the selected Event.
Edit: opens the Events Edition Page in edit mode for the selected Event.
Clone: opens the Events Edition Page in clone mode for the selected Event.
Unlink: removes the link between the object currently being edited and the selected event. No further confirmation is required.
Del: opens the Events Edition Page in delete confirmation mode for the selected Event. You can then confirm to proceed with the deletion or cancel it and return to the list. Note that this action link is disabled for auto-events.

In addition to this, global actions are available on the last row (bottom right corner) of the list:

New: opens the Events Edition Page in add mode. The resulting Event will automatically be linked to the currently edited object.
Link: opens the Event Selector in a new window. This allows you to select any event (not already linked to the current object) to form a new relationship with the object currently being edited. When the target event has been selected and you close the Event Selector window, please use the Refresh function of your browser ([F5], typically) to make your latest addition visible in the list.

Related pages menu

The exact contents of this menu depends on the type of object currently being edited.

Edit this <object> some more... link: Returns you to the current object record in edit mode. Use this link to further edit the object in question.
Add a new <object> link: Opens the form that allows you to create a new object record of the same type. Usefull when creating multiple records in sequence.
